My journey really started about ten years ago. I’ve always loved cooking and baking, but back then it looked very different from what I do now. Most of my recipes relied on processed, store-bought ingredients. And while I know it’s nearly impossible to avoid the store altogether, I slowly started questioning what I was using and looking for better, healthier ways to feed myself and my family.
Then I met my partner—believe it or not—on Facebook. We were in the same group, started chatting, and quickly realized we shared the same dream: living as self-sufficient as possible. Before we ever settled down, we spent a lot of time traveling across the country together in his tractor-trailer. Those miles gave us plenty of time to talk, learn, and really shape the life we wanted to build.
Over the past few years, we’ve been learning every chance we get. He’s been diving into ways to heat our home, collect water, improve and fertilize our land, and use solar energy. I’ve been busy in the kitchen—creating healthier recipes, learning how to ferment foods, dehydrating what we grow, and most recently, teaching myself how to can.
I started this website because I wanted to share the journey, not just the end result. Here, you’ll find real food, food preservation, long-term storage, and even making our own clothes. I’m learning as I go, and I hope you’ll learn right along with me.
We may never be completely self-sufficient in today’s world, but we’re doing our best—one recipe, one skill, and one season at a time.
