Descriptions

These aren't your old run-of-the-mill sloppy Joes in a can. These are the best Sloppy Joes ever! When my Mother was a member of our local VFW, the guys were always begging her to make them and bring them down.

Fortunately, this is a super simple recipe, and when you make sure you use clean ingredients, it's healthy as well.

Directions

Step 1

Place ground beef and onion in a large skillet. Turn the heat to medium and cook and stir the mixture constantly until the beef is browned and forms small crumbles, about 10 minutes.

Step 2

Stir in garlic and green bell pepper; cook and stir until softened, 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 3

Add 1 cup of water and stir, scraping the pan to dissolve any brown flavor bits from the bottom of the skillet.

Step 4

Mix in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.

Step 5

Add 1 more cup of water and return the mixture to a simmer.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is thick, about 40 minutes

Note's

Serve over toasted whole grain rolls
